SEO Mistakes

Of course, like in any rulebook, this website should keep you well-informed on the do’s and don’ts when it comes to SEO. From all the chapters you have read so far, you probably already have got the do’s covered.

What about the don’ts? Note that there are a lot of guidelines and rules that you should observe when you want to be optimized for a major search engine or a directory. So what are the mistakes that you should try to avoid when you are getting started on implementing SEO techniques to your site?

First of all, since you have just finished reading up on spam and Black Hat SEO techniques, then you should remember not to do any of those to your site. Keep checking all the forums, blogs, and sites that specialize in SEO, as you can always find methods that are way better than Black Hat processes.

It can be a simple task to take the easy road when performing SEO, which is why a lot of unconventional webmasters turn to these unethical standards. However, you already know how much simpler it is to report a site for spam, and before they know it, their site will be no good to them at all.

Another mistake that you should not commit is to forget about providing quality content. Content is the life-giving fluid that keeps sites moving. If you have nothing relevant and sensible to post, then why put up a site at all? You wouldn’t want to waste the time of millions of web surfers out there.

Your content, as it has always been mentioned, should be keyword rich, well-written, concise, and timely. If the info you have is outdated, take the time to update them. If your site sells products, be sure you have detailed and complete descriptions for what you are selling.

When you are just planning out your site, know that design is an important factor that can determine the success of your site. However, when you are drawing out your virtual blueprints, already have the SEO objective in mind.

Are you using frames? Do your headings contain keywords? Do you have a navigation menu? It has been said that you need to think about design and optimization together, and not one before the other. Recall the SEO friendly parameters as described in chapter 2.

Here is one more SEO mistake that seems attractive to the eyes, but is impractical in the long run. Chapter 2 and chapter 4 already mentioned splash pages, or first pages of the site that are generated by multimedia software. Note that some search engines have a hard time indexing sites with dynamic content, especially from the home page.

You can do away with splash pages, and simply create a static homepage that has an impact on your target audience. If you still want to make things above the ordinary static page, then you can check out Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and other templates on Flash that you may use. You should know that some web browsers do not readily play multimedia or dynamic pages, so your web visitor might end up viewing nothing.
