Search Engine Crawlers, Spiders and Bots

    Previously mentioned, a search engine crawler, spider and bot is a program which operates for the search engine, and makes it possible to find information on websites more easily and in the shortest time possible.

    Many search engine optimizers refer to important elements in a site as spider food, which attracts the spiders, bots, or crawlers to take not of your site contents and add them to the index of that web search engine. As said before, the search engine refers repeatedly to its index database whenever a web surfer types in a query.

    How does the spider go to other sites to crawl on them after it has visited your website? Crawlers and bots visit the links that you place on your site, go through their contents, and add them to the index as well.

    The secret to getting your site noticed by spiders is by submitting your site and all the pages in it to the directory or search engine of your interest. Also, if you want spiders who visit other sites to come to your own website, you should make your links included in the pages of your partner sites, too. Whenever the crawlers check out your partner sites, then they will link to you.

    If you are a webmaster, and you want to have updated versions of your site on the index of Google or Yahoo for example, then you have to request that search engine to index your site after you have submitted its pages.
