Google PageRank
What is Google Pagerank
Google Pagerank, as defined by the search engine itself, was a system of grading or rating pages based on link votes. The developers of this system were Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
Simply put, a page gets a good rank if
it has a lot of link votes. Link votes for site Z refers to
the presence of links on site Y that point to site Z. In
order for site Z to get a good Google Pagerank, a lot
of factors are weighed in, including the importance or
relevance of site Y, and the keyword search queries used.
Importance of Google Pagerank
Like Yahoo Web Rank, the Google Pagerank is indicative of the value or importance of a website to that search engine. Although the methods used by Yahoo and Google to generate page ranks are different, both are similar in the sense that a higher page rank is what webmasters and SEO firms should prefer.
Google Pagerank has a value between 0 to 10, and these values are constantly monitored by various offices. This value is important, because Google uses the Pagerank, combined with other numbers and factors, like keyword use, to be able to come up with a search engine results page.
Google Pagerank can also be seen visually if a user downloads and installs the Google Toolbar. Whenever a search query is made, and the web user clicks on a page, the toolbar will show a small meter with a green indicator that serves as a rating of the current Google Pagerank of the said page.
According to Danny Sullivan of Search
Engine Land, Google Pagerank is only one indication of how
well a site performs as compared to other sites, it is not a
guarantee that tells of higher rankings. Furthermore, Google
Pagerank is only one of many factors that are calculated to
come up with an actual rank of a site as it will appear on
search engine results pages.
How to increase Google PR
In the same way that you aim for great ranks on search engines through extensive SEO efforts, there are methods that you can apply so that your Google Pagerank (Google PR) increases. Again, backlinks are the key here. Remember how site Y helps in the Google PR of site Z?
If you want to have a good Google PR, you should increase your backlinks or build on your link popularity. You can do this by joining forums, where you can freely post a link of your site. You can also consider creating articles and submitting to article directories, because you can always add links to your site. Interested readers of your content may even be tempted enough to enter your site after reading through the article directory.
Also, don’t forget to submit your URL to Google, search engine, and also the Google Directory. Should there be a time that you will make major changes to your site, you have to resubmit your URL so that the index is updated.
Continue doing all the great SEO techniques you have been employing, and you can definitely help out your Google PR by giving it a boost.
